ONE MILLION BONES.

The Road to Srebrenica

ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION

As part of the 20th Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica, the Post Conflict Research Center (PCRC) partnered with US-based organization Art of Revolution to bring the project “One Million Bones” to Bosnia and Herzegovina (www.onemillionbones.net). This project previously brought together over 2,500 volunteers from across the United States to lay out 1,000,000 handcrafted bones on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. as a visible petition against on-going genocide and mass atrocity occurring around the world. The Art of Revolution graciously donated 100,000 handcrafted bones to PCRC and the Sebrenica-Potocari Memorial Center for the Commemoration of Genocide in Srebrenica and to use as part of a permanent art installation and memorial to the victims of genocide.

PCRC gathered youth from across BiH, and the Western Balkans, as well as international volunteers to take part in a youth event focused on increasing Bosnian and regional youth involvement in the peacebuilding process and educating them on topics related to moral courage, interethnic cooperation, and genocide prevention.

The 3-day-long event was divided in different activities such as the ceremony of laying of the bones, an intercultural conference and a visit to the Potocari memorial for the Commemoration.
